We are happy to announce our last speaker at DanMUN Conference 2019!
Billy O’Connor is the Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen. In this capacity, he supports our Public Affairs Section, and in coordination, with his Danish colleagues he formulates outreach strategy and cultural engagement and oversees our educational and professional exchanges.
He is responsible for our Countering Violent Extremism efforts and much of our Greenlandic outreach. Before moving to Copenhagen, Billy oversaw the United States’ largest exchange program at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. Billy served as a Deputy Cultural Attaché/Deputy Public Affairs Officer in Tallinn, Estonia and has served at the U.S. Mission to the Philippines. He joined the Department of State in May 2009. Prior to becoming a Foreign Service Officer, Billy was an attorney and speechwriter in Los Angeles, California.
Billy received his Juris Doctorate from UCLA with a specialization in international law and treaty interpretation; he also holds a political science degree. He is conversant in Danish and Dari and is fluent in Estonian.
At DanMUN Conference 2019 he will talk about US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and the impacts that it had and will have in future. Also, he will discuss the implications that Iran had continued to research into nuclear weapons which are not in compliance with the JCPOA.
