We are really happy to announce our first speaker at DanMUN Conference 2019!

Achilles Skordas is Professor of International Law at the University of Bristol and Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg.

Moreover,  he was Professor of International Law at the University of Copenhagen (2016-2018), as well as Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School, Visiting Professor at the University Paris XII, and Fellow at Osgoode Hall Law School (Toronto). His research interests include international law and geopolitics, EU Foreign Policy, international dispute settlement, and migration law and policy. His most recent study is entitled ‘The European Union as post-national realist power’, and was published in the ‘Research Handbook in EU Common Foreign and Security Policy’ (Blockmans/Koutrakos eds, Elgar Publ., 2018).

‘Iran and International Security: From the JCPOA to the International Court of Justice’

His lecture will present and analyse the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was concluded in 2015 and was integrated in the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the reasons for the withdrawal of the United States two years later, and the follow-up of the dispute before the ICJ in the case Islamic Republic of Iran v. the United States of America on the Alleged Violations of the 1955 Treaty of Amity, Economic Relations, and Consular Rights. So far, the ICJ has indicated provisional measures through its Order from 3. October 2017, which raises significant questions of international law.

There are still few spots open for the conference so hurry up and apply here: bit.ly/DanMUN2019
